columns in rows

I am evaluating a design read from excel and received the error message:

the data file has inconsistent number of columns in rows

. I take this to mean that my data file is not 'square' i.e. a cell/s may be blank or has a non-number. I ran logical tests to check these but this did not fix the error. How can I resolve this error? Thank you.

Hi,

You are correct that the data needs to be square. You could try and select the rows and columns outside the design matrix, right click on the row and column headers, and select delete. This may remove some blank data that is causing problems. Sometimes this does not fix the problem, and you could copy just the square matrix into a fresh Excel document. Or save it as a CSV file, remove any extra commas outside the design matrix, and load that instead.
